Outreach and Equity

The Alberta Aviation Museum occupies an historic WWII-era hangar on the now-closed Blatchford Field airport. This museum impacts a large number of young people in Northern and Central Alberta through both its regular programming, as well as its delivery of material in support of the province’s 6th grade curriculum on the ‘Theory of Flight’, and has doubtlessly encouraged many people to pursue careers in aviation and STEM.

As both a Director and now as President, I have had the honor of helping to enable the museum to continue this ongoing mission as part of the transition team that reorganized the museum governance, under the threat of insolvency, to reach its current state of stability and sustainability.

In addition to my work at the Alberta Aviation Museum, I have been involved in outreach work through the Verna J. Kirkness Program, which provides temporary lab experience for indigenous high school students, especially from Norther Canada, DiscoverE, an Engineering@Alberta program to engage secondary school students from Alberta, WISEST (Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science and Technology), and the Mystery Science Salon, providing all-ages public lectures in science and mathematics.
