Flight mills are a common tool to study insect flight, and the ones we have used are based heavily on those designed by TFREC at Washington State University. However, we modified this design for imaging applications, providing a uniform background behind the insect for contrast, and providing a uniform 1cm grid for initial (coarse) calibration of images. A basic MATLAB app for determining insect / wing positions is also provided. If you wish to use these tools, please cite Hajati et al, 2023.
